This month the Seward County Spotlight is focused on the Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office is responsible for maintaining peace and enforcing the law in rural areas of Seward County. This also includes all towns and villages that do not have a municipal police department. The Sheriff's Office investigates criminal offenses, traffic accidents, enforces traffic laws and death investigations. Other duties include civil process, serving warrants, County and District court security, transportation of jailed prisoners, title inspections, sex offender registry, firearm purchase applications and a number of community service events.
I had the pleasure of meeting with Deputy Pilcher, who has been employed with the Seward County Sheriff's Office for almost 4 years.
What has been the most rewarding part of working at Seward County?
I would say it's a combination of being able to be a DARE Officer and the crew I work with.
What do you find to be the most challenging part of your job?
I would say it would be not knowing how long your day will be. It can be difficult when you have a family.
What is something about your office that most people aren't aware of?
Many of the Officers in our office want to be physically fit. After attending the Academy, many offices don't continue to prioritize physical fitness. We all encourage each other.
What is one thing you couldn't live without?
Books. My favorite authors are Karen Moning & Diana Gabaldon.
What is your motto or personal mantra?
A staff member had asked Abraham Lincoln why he was not afraid to sit on his front porch knowing he had so many enemies during the Civil War and President Lincoln responded: "If I am killed, I can die but once; but to live in constant dread of it, is to die over and over again" I feel this fits what I do regarding the uncertainty of what I may face day to day.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Blizzards & the Real Housewives
What is the worst gift you received?
An ex-boyfriend gave me an 8 disc audiobook about managing finances called Rich Dad, Poor Dad. He thought it would be a good idea to listen to the whole thing from Ohio to Georgia.
What is on your bucket list?
-After reading the Outlander series, I want to visit Scotland.
-Ride a Clydesdale.
Which store would you like to max out your credit card at?
Well, if I would've kept my present (Rich Dad, Poor Dad) I would say no where, but since I didn't...Barnes & Noble and Maurices.
Which person has been most influential in your life?
My father; he instilled in me the importance of work ethic, priorities and having your ducks in a row.
If you knew the world was ending in 2018, what would you differently?
Stop holding grudges.
If you could switch jobs with anyone, what would you be doing?
It sounds cheesy, but I feel I'm doing what I'm supposed to do.
Deputy Pilcher grew up in Western Nebraska, she has two children. She enjoys reading and being a mother.
